  20. No.  This is a problem with the libraries used.  Configure adds
  21. -lsocket (if it exists) to the set of libraries for linking X
  22. programs.  On IRIX 5, -lsocket contains broken versions of the
  23. gethostby...() routines which don't use the nameserver.  On other
  24. systems (Solaris 2.x with some type of X libraries), -lsocket is
  25. necessary to link X programs.

  27. I don't know how configure could be taught to distinguish between good
  28. and broken -lsocket libraries, however.  Since you have to edit the
  29. Makefiles for the X stuff anyway (in order to define NO_FOIL_...),
  30. simply remove the -lsocket as well when you do this.
